Resources - Library

Small school logo

The Library Resource Centre (LRC) is a bright and lively area with many displays designed by the Reading Group and library monitors. It provides support for both students and staff, and houses a wide range of books, CDs, newspapers and videos as well as computers and e-resources.

Students use the LRC as part of the timetabled curriculum with their classes. They may also use the LRC independently before school, at lunchtime and after school. It's as great place to meet friends. Resources can be borrowed for up to 4 weeks and can be renewed for longer if needed. At the LRC students may read, return and borrow books, use computers, finish homework, study for exams, check email and learn about career opportunities and higher education.

The Reading Group meet on Thursday lunchtimes and take part in many fun-based activities based on the books they read. So far the most popular activity was tellng stories to the group inspired by images from two Boomerang postcards. They also spent £500 of the LRC's budget at a local bookshop in one visit, interviewed authors, and have taken part in National events such as World Book Day, National Poetry Day and the Carnegie Award.

The LRC promotes reading for pleasure and independent learning. We do this by reviewing books for Teen Titles magazine and the online Library Catalogue. The catalogue lists all items in the LRC and can be viewed by pupils and staff from any computer in school and at home. It even has an interactive map that shows you where the items are on the shelves!
