In the first year of Secondary School, we aim to provide continuity with the work undertaken at Primary School and to build on that foundation. A broad, balanced education is assured through having all students follow a "Common Course", although some flexibility is avilable for students who may have special needs. Every effort is made to provide additional support for students with learning difficulties and, at the same time, learning experiences that challenge the more able.
Our aim is to have all students experience success with their education, but equally to be challenged by their education. In order to provide such challenge and to ensure a good pace of progress and learning, students move on to their Standard Grade courses at the beginning of Second Year.

Students are grouped in classes of no more than 20 in all subjects.
