Support - Career Education and Guidance

Small school logo

Forrester provides effective Career Education and Guidance in a variety of ways, placing students at the centre of the process. It forms an important part of the Personal and social Education programme from S1 through to S6.

Students in S4 gain a valuable insight into possible career ideas through our Work Experience programme. Many S/6 pupils spend their Personal Development time investigating future career plans and career conferences are held throughout the year, covering a range of post school options. Students are also encouraged to self help and research their ideas by using the well stocked Careers Library.

At crucial times in a student's school career (for example towards the end of S1 when choosing new courses), expert advice is on hand from our careers adviser. He/she conducts one to one interviews to help pupils move forward with their career plans, sees class groups to teach career planning skills and supports students with their own research.

Members of the school management and guidance teams have special responsibilities to ensure that Forrester offers individual career guidance and up to date, accurate careers information for all students. In S5 and S6, careers conventions are held for those looking towards Further Education and employment

It is very important that teachers and employers work together to help bridge the gap between school and working life. We have established very good links with local business to benefit our students. In the past companies, such as BP, Scottish Brewers, IBM, Ferranti, and Ethicon have all helped the school in major events and activities for staff and students.
